We are the Banerjee's (Theresa, Shay, Samaya and Sai), a multicultural family of African American and East Indian decent.
Ironically, Shay and I grew up in the same community in Southern California, but our paths did not cross until years later. How could two people from two totally different backgrounds who lived in two different regions meet miraculously and paint their love story?
I love the bible verse Matthew 19:26 βWith man, nothing is possible, but with God, all things are possible.β I believe that Shay and I were destined to meet and get married, no matter what obstacles were thrown at us.
βI believe that you must bring your whole self to the table if you want to have a successful marriage, especially a multicultural marriage. You must be willing to accept cultural differences and compromise like never before. You must be willing to step outside of your comfort zone, be courageous, confident and stand up for what you believe in. You must bring your utmost strength, and most importantly, you must bring your true self! Being accepted is not one-sided, it is both families accepting each other and willing to make sacrifices for one another. That is the ONLY way your relationship will be successful. We do not have the perfect marriage, but with God as our front and center, he made it possible to pair two imperfectly people together to unite in his perfect love.
Thank you for following along on our journey.
Theresa is a loving wife to her best friend and soulmate, Shay, and supermom to her two beautiful children, Samaya (10) and Sai (3). She was born and raised in Southern California and works as a Compliance Director for a medical device company. She is a Jesus follower and grew up as a Christian, as both sides of her family were deeply rooted in the church. In her spare time, she loves cooking with Samaya, walking with her family, writing, painting, decorating and traveling.
Shay is a wonderful husband and father who has visited over 40 countries. He is a well seasoned traveler and plans vacations for his family as a hobby during his spare time. Shay was born in London and is of East Indian ethnicity. Shay currently works as a business analyst for a communications company.
Samaya is the familyβs shining star. She is very articulate and a young lady of many skills and talents. Samaya enjoys jazz, hip hop, acro and conptemporary dance. She is also on a competitive dance team and performs at a number of community events and conventions. Samaya also enjoys cooking, crafting, painting and some singing. Samaya has a heart of gold and is such a great big sister to her brother Sai.
Sai is the familyβs miracle blessing who came as a Christmas surprise. His parents struggled with a bit of infertility and was told they only had a 25% chance at having another baby. God had other plans and Sai was welcomed into the Banerjee family in December 2019. He is the heart and soul of the family and brings so much joy!
One of the main things that connected Shay and I is our love for travel, food and music. Shay has been to over 40 countries and his parents have seen all 8 wonders of the world. Travel was something that Iβve always wanted to do, but growing up my family did not have the means to do so. Shay completely changed my life by showing me a world of travel that I never knew.
